Crude oil fall
WTI closed November just shy of $89 a barrel on hopes of an improving economy. I think there is an argument for an improving economy in 2013, but it is just too early to tell how things are going to come together with the economy, and all the ramifications of basically an anti-business and social agenda political leadership of the last four years.
I am not making a political statement that there aren`t some benefits to be gained by such governmental policies, more to state the fact that with a lot of the legislative and fiscal policies of the last four years we have yet to fully understand some of the costs and unintended consequences of these policies like higher taxes, increased healthcare costs, and increased business regulation costs.
So this is an area that remains to be seen how all this plays out in the economy. Just last year many analysts were expecting 2013 to be an increased chance of a recession

Why did i join PGDM?
The PGDM is not an end in itself, but a means to an end. It is a degree designed to give you the ability to develop your career to its fullest potential, at an accelerated pace.I selected PSGIM to get more exposure from finance field. Its my passion to get the PGDM for the expansion of my career.I heard a lot about this institute as a reputed B School in the south India.I never expected to get this seat for me. And it was a miracle for me when I got the admission. In PSGIM, PGDM mainly focused the students to give more practical learning than theory oriented. And no more pressure is force when comparing with MBA programme. So, I took this programme. What will I get out of an PGDM? Aside from a powerful life experience, it should supply three main value propositions: Skills, Networks, and Brand.
Skills
These include the "hard skills" of economics, finance, marketing, operations, management, and accounting, as well as the "soft skills " of leadership, teamwork, ethics, and communication that are so critical for effective management.Students acquire these skills inside and outside the classroom. Since PGDM programs attract people from very diverse industries and cultures, a program should be able to leverage these differences and translate them into learning opportunities.
Networks
A PGDM program offers access to a network of PGDM students, alumni, faculty, and business and community leaders. This network can be very useful when beginning a job search, developing a career path, building business relationships in your current career, or pursuing expertise outside your current field. For example, entrepreneurs need access to capital, business partners, vendors, and clients. Arts-related businesses need access to funding and strategic management in order to position themselves to be relevant in the marketplace. Global businesses need access to local business cultures as they expand their enterprises to new territories.
Brand
The PGDM signifies management and leadership training. The particular school and type of PGDM program you attend also have brand associations that can help open doors based on the school's reputation. The strength of a school's brand is based on the program's history, its ability to provide students with technical skills and opportunities for personal growth, and the reach of its alumni and industry network. A powerful brand can give you the flexibility to make changes throughout your career.

Why PGDM?
When I looked for colleges in the south india, PSG was definitely in my radar because of its reputation of being an
astounding institute in academics for more than fifty years in the south. I
applied and called for a group discussion and interview. In fact I would say
that I gave my best shot at GD/PI. I was offered PGDM since I did not have a
valid MAT score. I was desperately looking for specialisation in operations and
the availability of that boosted my chances. When it comes to learning with work
experience PGDM is the default. Even the lords of Indian management studies IIM's offer PGDM not an MBA.
Then I backed myself and went ahead
in pursuing this program. I chose this program because this will give me a psychological
edge over the crowd and will help me in climbing the corporate ladder at a
faster pace. I am a chemical engineer and my wings are clipped for being
industrially preferred.
Presentation skills, communication techniques, business practices etc are some of the key deliverables that every management student must possess.Developing skills in leading and teamwork is an important facet of the pgdm. This anticipates practices in many of today's successful organisations. The interactive skills of effective communication, conflict management, negotiation and mobilising individuals towards common goals are the essential ingredients of effective management.

Power shortage impact on diesel - oil prices part -4
The ongoing power crisis across Tamilnadu has created a new
concern for diesel availability. Ever since the power shortage started there is
a sharp surge in quantity of diesel sold. This diesel consumption surge is due to
usage of diesel for generators. Many industries depend on power for mass
production of their goods. Because of non availability of power they are forced
to operate industries with influence of diesel generators. The subsidy provided
to diesel is again misused for purposes other than transportation of
commodities. This will lead to additional import of crude oil which in turn adds
burden to the oil companies which is already reeling under potential losses.
The government need to shell out few dollars in addition to compensate for the
misuse of subsidies. Continuous use of diesel for power generation will lead to
increase in diesel prices and the basic commodity prices will also rise in parallel
to It leaving aam aadhmi in the dark.
The regulation authorities also need to draw certain lines to curb this misuse of subsidy.
It is high time that we all should learn to use the resources
in the best possible way. The burning of diesel for generating electricity is
adding to pollution woes. The solar energy which is abundant and is the
limelight for our future generations is highly untapped. Why don’t we focus on
using this energy which is abundant and green to the environment?

Meltdown of premium petrol variants - oil prices part - 3
If you are a frequent user of gas stations, you might have
noticed the increase in prices of premium petrol products like speed, extra
premium etc which were wooing customers with increased efficiency, mileage and
with lot of stuffs. Three major oil companies Hindustan petroleum, bharat
petroleum and Indian Oil Corporation all set to stop production of these
premium variants.
There is a sharp decrease in consumption of these premium
products in market due to continuous rise in oil prices and when government
withdrew its subsidy the curtains are almost down. The price difference between
premium versions and normal versions earlier would be in the range of 2 to 3
max. But with governments subsidy cut, now the difference mounts to 8 rupees.
This can distance consumers from using it. The slump is major setback for the
oil companies because of the huge investment spent in branding and infrastructure
facilities. Statistical data reveals the setback is already projected three
years back which stopped oil companies from further investment in this particular
division. It also reveals high end SUV users, who were the main consumers of
these premium variants also looking to prefer normal variants. The much hyped
premium petrol products which were the cash cows once were now set for a
decline.

Poem Summary
Summary of the poem ‘I am not yours’
The poem, ‘I am not yours’ was written by Sara Teasdale. My analysis of
this poem is that it's about someone who is in love with a person with whom
they are unable to be with. For instance, it could be about a man or woman who
is married but in love with another. They know there is hope that someday they
will be together, just not now, so they dream of whom it will be when the time
is right. There is love, will always be love, and someday they can act upon
their love.
In the first stanza,
the narrator states, “I am not yours, not lost in you, Not lost, although I
long to be.” At first, we think it’s because she is in love with someone she
can’t have. They are taken by someone else and the narrator will never get to
experience what it’s like to be in a relationship with them. It is quite tragic.
However, in the second
stanza, we learn that this person loves the narrator. It is the narrator not
the other person that is keeping the narrator from experiencing what she/he
wants to experience.
The final stanza is a prayer that
the narrator will be able to allow themselves to fall hopelessly in love, “Oh
plunge me deep in love”. They wish to no longer navigate through life doing the
sensible thing using only their mind (“put out My senses, leave me deaf and
blind,”). Instead, they want to concentrate on what their heart wants. They are
ready for love, but are still waiting for the thumbs up.
Summary of the poem ‘Alone’
The
poem Alone was written by Edgar Allan Poe. Alone, as the name suggests, is a
poem about an introvert, about a person that was not very confident of him. The
meaning of this poem is loneliness. The
first half of the poem was about Poe’s terrible childhood. The second half of
the poem is about his family life, and so on.
The first eight lines are
about him not having the same passion as others, and about his normal life with
his parents. The phrase even makes you think that he preferred being different
to others.
The lines 9, 10, 11 and 12,
are about how the dawn of his childhood, the early times of his childhood
changed into something negative, which was what in 'of a most stormy life was
drawn' meant, the next line, 'From every depth of good and ill' meant that the
change was made from the normal good and bad things in his life so far. The
next line is about him questioning himself why it had happened to him.

''It might have been'' by ella wheeler
We will be what we could be. Do not say,
"It might have been, had not this, or that, or this."
No fate can keep us from the chosen way;
He only might who is.
We will do what we could do. Do not dream
Chance leaves a hero, all uncrowned to grieve.
I hold, all men are greatly what they seem;
He does, who could achieve.
We will climb where we could climb. Tell me not
Of adverse storms that kept thee from the height.
What eagle ever missed the peak he sought?
He always climbs who might.
I do not like the phrase "It might have been!"
It lacks force, and life's best truths perverts:
For I believe we have, and reach, and win,
Whatever our deserts.
"It might have been, had not this, or that, or this."
No fate can keep us from the chosen way;
He only might who is.
We will do what we could do. Do not dream
Chance leaves a hero, all uncrowned to grieve.
I hold, all men are greatly what they seem;
He does, who could achieve.
We will climb where we could climb. Tell me not
Of adverse storms that kept thee from the height.

He always climbs who might.
I do not like the phrase "It might have been!"
It lacks force, and life's best truths perverts:
For I believe we have, and reach, and win,
Whatever our deserts.
Once taken an appropriate path there should not be second
thoughts about it. Life can be at times a touch deceptive. Never annoy that it
might have arrived that way or had not this etc. if you have a vision and
pursue it over a period of stretch, fate can no longer distance you from the
glory. We will always be who we are, irrespective of occurrence and vicinity.
One who decides to do will be the one who achieves it. We will be definitely laying the maximum
efforts to back our stand. The author wishes
human effort to be an eagle which will continue to be on its task of flying at
higher heights even though it fails to do so. Stressing on the ‘’Never say
die’’ phenomenon. The phrase ‘’it might have been’’ could hide life’s best
truth but we have to reach our destiny and show the world what we ought to…

I Believe by kayla neil
I Believe
I believe that the sun shines after the rain
I believe if you don't get hurt you'll never gain
I believe in not doing things the easy way
I believe that being selfish doesn’t pay
I believe in a second chance
I believe in a life long romance
I believe there is life after death
And standing up to a life of mess
I believe in love at first sight
I believe that revenge isn’t right
I believe that first impressions last
And there is nothing better then a good laugh
Kayla Neil
Belief is like root
inside the earth which gives the confidence to the tree to stay on top of the
earth. Would you imagine a tree existing without its roots deep into the earth?
Definitely it will not be able to sustain
Imagine the life of a
human being without belief, it will be nothing but nightmares. Belief by the
word describes believe in you, as Swami Vivekananda said “all power is lying
within you, you can do anything and everything’’
I
believe the sun shines after the rains; the water droplets that
rain pours to earth adds glitter to the greenery making it as most envisage
able sight of the morning.
I believe if you don’t get hurt, you will never gain; Stone can never be a statue unless it is carved with tools. Carving might hurt, but patience and persistence pay the stone to be a statue of liberty. Never bow down if you get hurt, always be patient and pursue your goals to be a winner

I
believe in not doing the things easy way, doing things isn’t easy anyway
and if you prefer to choose the easy way. Then again it is not the gold that
counts; it’s the legacy that you cultivate counts;
I believe that being selfish doesn’t pay; Imagine a sun, with all its powers chose to be selfish and halt at his place. The consequence is half the world will be in darkness forever. Selfish can be as heartening as a boat without a paddle in center of the sea leaving it unmoved towards the destiny

I
believe in a second chance; and also believe the first is not
the last as well. There is always a life for progression.I
believe in a life long romance; exchange of love
cannot be confined with ages. Our love towards life can always be nourished for
its unpredictability that gives an edge over the rest.
I
believe there is a life after death; death can never be an
end. The enlightening visionary words of Gandhi are everlasting and exhibit the
life of words after death.
And
standing up to a life of mess; when the going gets
tough, it’s the tough ones who will get going. Standing tall at critical
moments will be the driving force for unsung victories
I
believe in love at first sight; if not for those YouTube
illuminations, I regret for being mum on that first sight. It is one of those
instances, where your heart beat pounds up for being a devotee.
I believe revenges aren’t right; forgiving can be the sweetest revenge as the rain god forgives us for all the discharges that we originate out of bliss and gives the kind of rain
I believe revenges aren’t right; forgiving can be the sweetest revenge as the rain god forgives us for all the discharges that we originate out of bliss and gives the kind of rain
I believe first impressions last;
impressions last long if they are exchanged rather than creating it. It is impressive
of the rainbow at the first time make it so special than the leftover ones.
Isn’t it?
And nothing is better than a good laugh; laughter can neither take away your sorrows nor give you the happiness of living. Believe in happiness and joy of a giving a laugh to the world, where the rest is the call of almighty…..

Fun republic - Hangout destiny
Fun republic – The new
hang out at "Manchester of south India"(Coimbatore) for the republicans, to
weave into the mall way of shopping. Kovai, the second largest city in Tamilnadu
associated itself with its second mall operating since a month. Like every mall , fun republic has a popular mix of fashion
apparels, electronics and entertainment spread across four floors. The mall
surprisingly doesn't contain the neon lights portraying mall identity. As I walked into the mall on busy Sunday
evening, Right away I felt something missing, undoubtedly that’s the sweet
aroma, which drives your enthusiasm levels to a ride. That was missing right
away. As I proceeded further I could see bunch of families heading out with
bright smiles and Kids with hand full of purchases. Reached center stage of the
mall and found nothing but chaos. Thanks to the advertisement activity,
happening in center left part of the mall and crowd surrounding it by blocking
the pathways. With poor acoustics it was like someone banging on my ears adding
to the chaos. Even lighting wasn't that great.
Mall is still in its
early days of functioning, where some stores are yet to be buzzed up. The much
awaited movie screens are scheduled to open within a week adding to fun at fun
republic. When I stopped some visitors for their thoughts,
here is what they wanted to share.
Partha aged at his fifties expressed his happiness that he found a new destination to park his children on weekends who are very notorious at home. He also wished for better parking facilities. Parking here consist of three basement floors. He adds that the paths are not clearly marked and charges also quite expensive. Lighting facilities need to be taken care of at parking and emergency exits.
Rajiv a teen says” am standing in the queue at McDonald’s for past 15 mins to collect a piece of burgers. Shop could have been a bit spacious and had more counters. There is no connectivity between McDonald and other outlets. All the eatery giants are in fourth floor but for McDonald’s which is in ground floor. I am a variety loving person; this arrangement limits me to stop with one’’
Kumar at his forties
expressed his concerns that prices are not cheap as they advertised in the
pamphlets. Every product has a hidden cost attached to it which leads to an
expensive buy.
John shared his anguish
at stinky toilets, which has very poor maintenance and it’s not spacious to be
inside the mall. Water flow is quite low and floors are slippery which need to
be looked on.
Shanthi at her fifties
says these escalators are very unsafe for our age group. They are operated at
higher speeds instead of normal speeds. I have been to airports and malls
before where escalators tend to be a bit slow. They also should see all age
groups before fixing up of speeds. I have been waiting for lifts in the second
floor to reach fourth floor but all the lifts are jam packed and I had to wait
for 5 minutes to reach fourth floor. If escalators were slow, I also could have
reached destination without much congestion. Interestingly lifts don’t have
fans. They have air conditioners inside but still I felt suffocated.
The above are only a
few who raised their concerns, many tend to evade questions. Overall everyone was happy with a new hangout
destination in their locality gearing up to take center stage after multiplex
gets open. I can see many happy faces in the entire lot in comparison with few
bleak ones. There were gossips saying fun republic is capable of dividing the Brook field crowd magic.

oil price concerns - part 2
Whoa!
When the whole nation is up against the rise in diesel prices, hardly we accept
the fact that we are responsible for the surge in diesel prices. The diesel
subsidy which is given by the government to keep the prices of essential
commodities in an affordable manner is getting defeated on a daily basis. One
has to believe that instead of showing dissent on rise in diesel prices, we
should utilise the fuel efficiently and thereby we will be able to bring down
the consumption quantity of diesel. Because of increased utilisation of diesel,
the public sector oil companies have been left with only one option but to buy
the fuel at any cost.
The misuse of subsidised fuel for our personal
transportation has led to this crisis. Recent survey by government have
revealed data showing 30 % of the subsidised fuel is being used for purposes
which it should not be meant for, resulting in extra imports of diesel at
increased prices. This further is used as a marketing strategy by automobile
companies wherein they sell diesel cars at higher prices because of growing
demand. As citizens of India we should be responsible for wellbeing of fellow
Indians, where nearly 30 per cent of Indian population is below poverty line.
However the situation has become alarming now and with government deciding to
take on bulls with horns by a proposal on taxing diesel cars with higher tax
and bringing a cap on number of cylinders per household. It’s high time that
oil consumers need to change their approach or in future they will be forced to
change.

A day in life of primary school teacher
Maria, mother of two starts her day at 6 am with a cup of
coffee to her husband followed by a flask of Horlicks for her daughters.
Generally her daughters devi & priya wake up at 7 am. Devi is in her sixth
standard and priya is doing her fourth standard. The best thing that maria
feels happy about is her daughters devi and priya studying at the same school
where she works. It reduces her work by a huge amount and she takes her
daughters along with her to drop them in school. After she drops them she parks
the vehicle and reaches the staff cabin where all her colleagues drop in to say
a hello’’
Maria, a primary school teacher handles sessions for fourth
and fifth grade preferably mathematics. As we all know handling primary school
students is always a daunting task. What differentiates maria from the rest of
her colleagues’ is the way she brings in focus of students in the class towards
learning. She prefers her class to be an playground where every kid will be
asked to play the game of mathematics. Instead of traditional ‘’I speak u
listen’’ concept of teaching. She adds” I invoke play way method which will
give you the joy of learning’’.
Maria has never gone the hard way when things don’t work the
way she wanted to be. Instead she prefers to sit in and spend time to bring
kids into their grove. She recalls an incident where, a fourth grade student,
prasanna had a habit of stealing stationary from his friends and got caught by
one of her colleagues during an science session, the faculty had given prasanna
hefty punishments and issued a letter to his parents for future action.
Surprisingly the next day, the student instead of regretting for his own
mistakes had other ideas to take revenge. He went in to the staffs cabin and carried
three to four books from the place and when he was about to leave home, He just
disposed those books into the drainage canal outside the school. When he was
doing this activity, it was noticed by one of the school student. On enquiry by
his friend, prasanna said “all these are old books and am disposing it”.
He got suspicious and the next day, when the concerned staffs
were on the lookout for his books, he came across this particular student
revealing the activity done by prasanna. When this came to light Maria called
prasanna and enquired about his problems and addressed it by love. Only because
of her kind approach, she came to know that Prasanna developed the habit of
stealing not to take things and use it for his own. He actually used this
activity to take revenge on his friends who were actually teasing him for
various reasons. The kindness shown by maria towards prasanna brought in a
welcome change in him if not for those corporal punishments.
After she finishes her morning sessions, she takes her lunch
which she brought in her snuff box from home. Strangely, the fresh cooked food
in the morning will be packed in snuff boxes for her daughters and husband. She
actually takes the previous days left overs with a mix of fresh preparations
for her lunch.
When the day dawns, she walks in to her daughter’s class and
enquire their progress and picks them to home. She reaches her home, starts
taking tuition classes for the neighbourhood people and in the intervals she
prepares the dinner for her family.
In her busy schedule, she never misses to plan her family’s
financial budget and to monitor the day to day needs and expenses. Starting
From vegetable stock to ironing of clothes, daughter’s studies to husband’s
health her to-do list is unending.
I wonder who else can be the best manager than maria in
terms of managing her responsibilities….?

Oil Price
OIL PRICE
Oil prices are the biggest concern of every common man. Infact after deregulation of petrol, there is a big surge in prices. The fluctuation have increased by many folds. Whenever there is a hike, the govt. distances itself from the hike by pointing its finger towards the global hike in oil prices.Recently the increase in petrol price by rupees 7 per litre, still remains the highest ever hike amended in a single day.
The subsidy given for diesel and LPG actually keeps the common man in a kind of comfort zone. The LPG cylinder which weighs 14 kg priced after subsidy at approximately 400INR is still the lowest when compared with any other nieghbouring countries except OPEC nations. Diesel and LPG regulations fully function under the control of govt. Diesel which is the main mode of transportation for all the basic needs of people is a key player in fixing up of commodity rices. Increase in diesel prices indirectly increases the commodity prices which loops into inflation, GDP etc ..
With rising losses to the govt run oil companies due to increase in subsidy, the govt has deviced a strategy wherein the susbsidy will be exempted for diesel passenger cars which actually accounts for 30 % consumption of subsidised diesel fuel. This is still at the planning stage, but implemented will definitely help in bringing down future increase in diesel prices to an certain extent.
After the awareness on global shortage in oil have spread across the globe, nations have focused on meeting their needs through solar, wind and hydro power and recommends the usage for all the developing and developed nations.
Oil has become a very basic need because of its endless demand for transportation. The rising consumption and burning of carbon into atmosphere, actually demands for more efficient use of fuel.
